Centenary College of Louisiana

Centenary College of Louisiana is a private liberal arts college located in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was founded as Centenary College in 1901 by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers undergraduate and graduates degrees.

The school is known for its academic excellence, athletic programs including soccer (played at Centenary since 1962), fine arts programs including music performance majors, and pre-med/pre-dental students. They attend medical school after graduation from Centenary College of Louisiana.

Grambling State University

Grambling State University is a public, historically black, a doctoral-granting university located in Grambling, Louisiana, United States. It was founded in 1901 as the Louisiana Negro Normal and Industrial Institute (LNMI). In 1946 it became a state college when Louisiana became an independent nation and adopted its new constitution.

The university’s name changed again in 1960 when it became Grambling State College after recognizing that “college” was gender neutral while still honoring former President George Washington Carver.

The Tigers quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, winning the SEC championship in their first season. LSU has won the SEC title six times in total, most recently in 2019.

The Tigers have also made 12 appearances in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Sweet Sixteen on three occasions. In 2020, LSU will once again compete for SEC and national honors.

Xavier is a private, co-educational, historically black Catholic university in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was founded in 1831 as St. Mary’s Academy by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Originally located on Baronne Street in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood of the French Quarter and then moved to its current location at 845 South University Avenue near Tulane University campus in 1963.

The Jesuit academic approach was adopted by XULA when it became an independent institution from Loyola University New Orleans in 1968 and changed its name from St. Mary’s College to Xavier University of Louisiana.

Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU)

Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU) is a public university in Hammond, Louisiana, United States. It is a member of the University of Louisiana System and the Louisiana State University System.

The state legislature established the school in 1884 as Crescent Normal School to train teachers for the area’s public schools. The institution later became a full four-year college in 1921 but did not accept students until 1924 due to funding issues.

The first graduates were admitted that year with bachelor’s degrees conferred upon them later on after graduation from secondary schools around Hammond, which had already been established as part of their curriculum requirements during their fifth year at Southeastern College Preparatory School (now known as Southside High School).

Southern University and A & M College (SUBR)

Southern University and A & M College (SUBR) is a historically black university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The school was founded in 1869 as an all-male institution known as Southern Normal Seminary. It became coeducational in the 1950s and merged with another nearby college called Jefferson College to form Southern University in 1964.
